Targu Mures is an old szekely town. A lot of splendid buildings have been built here over the centuries by the citizens of the town, by the Church, by the religious orders, and by the nobles. The most impressing building of the 20century is the Town Hall, built in 1907-1908, and was ornated with Seccessionist- Ecletic folk motifs. Nearby is the Palace of Culture, decorated mainly with the mosaic of Sandor Nagy, and Aladar Korosfoi. The Palace houses, a concert hall, an art museum and the town library.
The fortress of Marosvasarhely built on a high ground and surrounded by walls and fortified bastions dates back to the age of Arpads. It was built around the Minorite church and monastery. Like other fortress churches of Transylvania it gave shelter to local population.
The Gothic Calvinic church within walls of the fortress was built in the early 14th century. The building of Teleki Teka was built by Samuel Teleki specially as a library. The library contains more than 60 thousands of volumes.
The theatre of Marosvasarhely was completed in 1980 in mixed Neobarogue-Ecletic style according to the plans of Romanian team directed by architect Constantin Savescu.
