Suceava used to be the capital of Moldova
from 1388 to 1566 and also an important
cultural and commercial centre on the
trading route Lwow to Istanbul.
600 years ago, rulers built Orthodox
churches to resist the influence of Catholicism.
At that time nobody hoped that after so many
years we could still see these churches all over
Suceava county.
The ruins of Suceava Fortress can still be seen set in a beautiful landscape with hills
and woods. It was blown up by the Turks in 1675.
