Brasov is municipality and county residence, today is a powerful industrial centre and a well known touristic centre. The name of Brasso is probably of Bulgarian-Turkish origin (Boro-su), it means "gray water". This town dates back to the age of Hungarian conquest. The castle Barssovia with the church was built by Sant Stephen king. The market has preserved the names of the products were sold there, for eg. The Row of Flowers to the east, The Row of Wheat to the north, and so one. The old Town Hall situated in the middle of the market was rebuilt in 1770, today houses a museum. The tower of the Town Hall is 58m high. The arcaded building from the corner is the Carpati restaurant (Piata Sfatului – Council Square), which is visited today mainly by the tourists, foreigners. There is a show every night in which Saxon, Szekely, Romanian groups used to dance, and also here you can see real Romanian folk costumes. The Gothic Black Church of Brasso, was built from 1383 to 1424, is 88m long and 22m wide and has a 65m high tower. The church has been a Calvinist church sience the age of Reformation. It burnt down on 21st of april 1689, sience than has been called Black church. Beside the church stands the statue of Janos Honterus, son of the town, the great reformer.
Some other touristic attractions in Brasov city are the, Sf Nicolae ortodox church, which is very important monument of Romanian architecture, the Catholic church bsaint Petru and Pavel, the historic museum, the House of Merchants (belonging to the renessaince architecture), the Art Museum, the Council Square.
Brasov is also famous about the international Festival of dance music "Cerbul de aur/ The Golden Buck".
